That'll move the chains

It all started with the find of the century... an awesome necklace that my friend found buried in the disheveled jewelry section of J.C.Penney of all places. When I saw it I had to have it. It's the statement necklace that goes with everything and I fell in love. I decided I wanted to make a one with silver tones because that is mainly what I wear.  I walso anted to make a necklace that was individual to me something that really spoke to who I was as a person.

Here is the original necklace:

Awesome right?

I took a trip to Micheal's to find myself in the form of charms.
Here is what I came up with:

I started with a bunch of chains that vary in length, finish and style. I then found charms that meant something to me. A peacock because it reminded me of the peacocks at my wedding, a Mona Lisa pendant for my love of art, pattern ceramic charms for my love of kitschy antique stuff.  I also found stuff around the house, for example an old Eiffel Tower key chain that I got from my grandma and some Egyptian charms that my mom's friend brought me from Cairo and various other parts to jewelry I had that broke. You will also need some links to attach the chains and charms and a toggle or clasp.

First decide what you want the focal pendant to be.  I chose the Mona Lisa.  Attach the focal pendant in the center of the main chain that will anchor the necklace, then attach the toggle or clasp.

Now is when your creativity and personal touch comes in. After I attached the second chain to the necklace I put it on because I found it was easier to fill in the gaps that way.

And I just kept on going.  Filling in gaps where I felt necessary.

Here is the finished product:

I looked around the house a little more and found some more of grandma's old costume jewelry to throw in because I felt I needed a little more flare. What do you think?
Note: Don't forget to tighten up your links so you don't break while your out and about. Then you are ready to rock with your very own very personalized rock star necklace!
Happy Crafting!
